Delegation of French Red Cross President

Delegation of French Red Cross President - Professor Jean FrancoisA delegation of the French Red Cross, headed by Professor Jean Francois MATTEI, President French Red Cross, was in transit in Mauritius and had a brief meeting with the MRCS.


We have the pleasure and the honour to inform you that the French Red Cross has granted the "Henri DUNANT medal" to Mr Patrice PELLEGRIN, Deputy Director General, in recognition of the support he has given to the PIROI since its inception and to the work done both locally and regionally.






Day 1 “Awareness Campaign Week”

2 May 2007 – The launching of the Mauritius Red Cross “Awareness Campaign WeekTogether for Humanity was held at the Cine Star 3 at Caudan Waterfront, Port-Louis. His Excellency the Vice President of the Republic of Mauritius Mr. Raouf Bundhun, our Chief Guest of Honor for this occasion made his entry at 9hrs30. Mr.Raouf Bundhun was welcomed on red carpet by the Volunteers from the First Aid Unit, ERU and the youth section of the Mauritius Redcross.

The official ceremony started with the National Anthem performed by the North Branch followed by the welcome speech of Gilbert Duverge – Dissemination Officer of the MRCS. He also read the speech of the President MRCS - Sir Maurice Latour Adrien, who could not be present for this occasion.

At 9hrs50 Ms. Suzanna Cunningham of the IFRC was invited to deliver her speech, followed by the speech of the Vice resident of the Republic of Mauritius, His Excellency Mr. Raouf Bundhun declared the Awareness Campaign Week opened at 10hrs00 and also presented the official brochure of the MRCS.

The Story of An Idea – a short animated movie was screened to the public relating the creation of the Red Cross Movement and a short documentary showing the volunteers at work. The official ceremony winded up with a song “Mille Colombe” performed by the North Branch followed by a cocktail party.

 

Day 2 “Awareness Campaign Week”

3 May 2007 – The MRCS contributes and encourage its volunteers towards Community services. The 2nd day was dedicated to orphanage and homes where volunteers from the four branches visited the elderly. 200 Hygienic kits (soap, tooth brush, towel, talcum powder, Anti Mosquito cream) were distributed around the island.

Our volunteers had a nice time with the residents of the homes and at the same time conducted a survey so as to see how we can help them in the future.

Day 3, 4, 5 “Awareness Campaign Week”

4 May 2007 – The Annual Flag Day of the MRCS begins as from today until Sunday the 5th May 2007, where hundreds of our Volunteers will participate in this fund raising, with the slogan “DONATE GENEROUSLY” Help Us Helping others.
